Matty P’s Bike and Hike: The Endless Autumn

My name is Matt Preston, and I am riding from DC to Key West on a bicycle. The trip should be around 1,800 miles, and it’s going to be quite the adventure. I am going to be carrying all the gear I’ll need to survive on my back or in a trailer hitched to my wheel.

My journey is going to take me through some amazing places filled with interesting people. It’s also going to take me through some incredibly frustrating, painful, and lonely moments. Fortunately, I will have my family and friends to support me through it all.

I’ve known Kevin since pre-K, and I’ve tutored at different grade schools in DC and seen the kids’ struggles first hand. Although I’ve never experienced anything like either one of these incredibly tough situations myself, I have the opportunity to do something that I hope will at least relate and hopefully support them in their progress. I feel like this trip will provide some serious perspective on life, and I look forward to pedaling through it all and to reaching my goal.

I have a feeling there will be some serious ups and downs, and I know that there will be some moments of despair and points when it will all just seem too damn heavy. But I have to push through. Kevin does. The kids and staff at WJA do.
